Champions for Change Logo

Michigan Fitness Foundation presents Champions for Change, a storytelling project where every day Michiganders share their commitment to living healthier lives at home and in their community and in turn, inspire others to eat healthy and move more.

This Champions for Change video features Michiganders at the Downtown Saginaw Farmers Market from Saginaw Intermediate School District, Timm Family Farms, DeWyze Family Farm, and lifelong Saginaw residents who are helping people live healthier lives in their community.

This Champions for Change video features Michiganders from Argus Farm Stop, Green Things Farm Collective, Steinhauser Farms, and Washtenaw Intermediate School District. Their dedication to ensuring people have access to locally grown food and nutrition education in and around Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County is what makes them champions of health in their communities.

Melissa knows firsthand how poverty and addiction can fuel food insecurity and increase crime. Now sober, she is a certified recovery coach and volunteer for the Hillsdale County court as an advocate and sponsor for those facing legal challenges and incarceration for addiction-related offenses. Her advocacy is an important part of her sober journey, reinforcing how far she has come. Currently on the Dean’s List at Eastern Michigan University, Melissa is studying social work and women and gender studies. She credits her determination to her belief that you cannot stop trying until the miracle happens.
